Dealing with Commercial Course Notes and Materials Websites
Several entities, such as One Class, have established websites on which notes and materials from courses taught at Western are posted. These postings may violate the instructor’s rights. For example, course instructors retain the copyright in materials they use in teaching the course, so those materials should not be posted on such an entity’s website without the instructor’s permission.
UWOFA has developed a template for a letter to such an entity, asserting the instructor’s rights and demanding that the notes and materials be removed from the website. It is possible, though by no means assured, that such a letter might persuade the entity to comply with the demand. Contact UWOFA’s Professional Officer or Member Services Officer for more information.
