Full-time members
Full-time UWOFA members receive extended benefits coverage through a group plan administered by Manulife Financial. A summary of your benefits is available on Western’s Human Resources webpage. Full-time members also contribute to the UWO pension plan and have access to services and programs including, but not limited to, Western’s Employee Assistance Program, Rehabilitation Services, and the Dependents’ Tuition Scholarship Plan.
UWOFA is available to help members resolve benefit entitlement concerns. Members are also encouraged to review the Compensation and Benefits article in their Collective Agreement and the UWO benefits literature on its Human Resources website.
Full-time UWOFA faculty members are entitled to $2,500 in flexible benefit credits per year and full-time librarian and archivist members receive $2000 in flexible benefit credits per year.
Each year Members must decide how much to allocate of their flex credits to a Health Care Spending Account, Professional Expense Reimbursement, or a taxable Wellness Account.

This benefit is provided to regular full-time and eligible Tier 1A faculty members and eligible librarians and archivists.
If an incident occurs while you are out of province/out of the country, please call Manulife first. Contact information can be found on the back of your Manulife benefits card.
It is important that you read and understand your plan before you travel. Please refer to Page 7 of the emergency insurance booklet below for the card you should carry with you when you travel. It contains the plan and certification numbers and the toll-free emergency travel assistance telephone numbers.

Subject to plan conditions, spouses and dependent children of faculty holding a regular, full-time continuing appointment and librarians and archivists holding probationary or continuing appointments are eligible to receive tuition scholarships for university courses taken for credit towards a degree (undergraduate, professional or graduate) at a recognized university, national or international, for a maximum of four years full-time or equivalent (20 full-time courses). Upgrading courses at the Faculty of Education are not eligible. Tuition scholarships are available for courses in a formal program of study leading to a degree or diploma at a community college that is a member of Colleges and Institutes Canada. Non-Canadian universities must be recognized as having university standing by Western admissions.
- Value: up to $5,100 for 2020-2021
- Application Deadline: June 30, 2022

Rehabilitation Services at Western promotes employee health and wellness and strives to minimize the impact associated with disability throughout the organization. The team consists of three Rehabilitation Consultants; an Ergonomic and Return to Work Consultant, an Ergonomics Consultant and a Wellness Coordinator.

Each Member holding a Part-Time assignment may claim Professional Expense Reimbursement, based on the total number of courses for which the Member has primary teaching responsibility, up to a value of $250 for the first degree credit full course and $75 for each additional half course to a maximum of $700 per calendar.
The professional expense reimbursement is a benefit available for reimbursement of work expenses including, but not limited to:
- Books, journal subscriptions
- Membership fees, scholarly association dues
- Conference registration and associated travel expenses
- Technology expenses for scholarly work. This includes home internet charges, for example
- Supplies and related expenses for scholarly work

Western’s Financial Services has developed a quick lookup so members can look up the unspent balance on their PER. Members will be taken to Western’s Financial Services page where they will need to log in using their Western user ID and password. Once logged in, choose “Employee Self Service”, then “Professional Expense”. All entitlements and claims since 2006 are displayed.

Part-time members
Part-time members of UWOFA receive pay in lieu of benefits at the rate of 4% per course. Part-time members contribute to the UWO pension plan. Part-time members can also access Western’s Rehabilitation Services and the Employee & Family Assistance Program for the support they may need.
