Information for new members

Most of the resources you will need about UWOFA can be found on our website. I encourage you to visit the site, familiarize yourself with our Board members, and read up on recent news and events.

The terms and conditions of your employment are set out in the Faculty Collective Agreement (CA) and Librarians and Archivists CA that defines your rights and responsibilities in a wide range of areas, including Promotion and Tenure, Compensation and Benefits, Annual Performance Evaluation, Workload, etc.

UWOFA has a Faculty Representatives Council that plays an important role by informing members of their rights outlined in the Faculty Collective Agreement.

The Faculty Rep is often the first person a member may approach to get clarification on a Collective Agreement issue. I encourage you to contact your departmental representative if you have any questions about UWOFA or about working at Western.

We recognize that for many faculty members, socializing with colleagues is a pleasurable and integral part of academic life. A favourite location for meeting friends on campus is the Grad Club, operated by the Society of Graduate Students. It’s located in the back of Middlesex College, and the patio allows for safe physical distancing while maintaining a lively social connection. All persons represented by UWOFA are members of the Grad Club, under the provisions of an annual group membership purchased by UWOFA on your behalf. Please feel free to attend the Grad Club for lunch, or for any of the many evening events and performances. Your Western Faculty ID card is proof of membership. So enjoy!

As you settle in to your department, remember that you are not alone. In addition to introducing yourself to your Faculty Rep, don’t hesitate to speak to any of our staff if you have questions. We have a knowledgeable and enthusiastic team that’s ready to help. If you have any questions or concerns about any aspect of your position or inquiries about the CA, please feel free to contact UWOFA’s Member Services Officer at uwofamso@uwo.ca or extension 86218. You can also reach uwofa staff by emailing uwofa@uwo.ca.
